A dog that is not housetrained or has lost its housetraining abilities may urinate or defecate in the home whether the owner is present or not. Some dogs learn to avoid eliminating directly in front of the owner if they have been previously punished for this behavior. Dogs may find indoor locations more readily available or attractive. House-training can eliminate this problem, a professional dog-trainer may be needed.
