Having a dog pet is something most people like. You need to be familiar with the breed of dogs you rear and their diets. Pitbull is one of the best breeds that any dog owner should desire to have. Their origin is from the United States of America.

It is believed to have gained its existence from the bulldogs and the terriers. They have a lifespan of more than fifteen years. However, this will depend entirely on the care taken and the feeding mode. How you feed your Pitbull will also determine its weight. A healthy adult pit bull should weigh from sixteen to thirty kilograms.

Always ensure that the meals are well balanced to promote a healthy lifestyle for your Pitbull. Protein

Since pit bulls are muscular and large, they require foods with high protein levels. Animal proteins are the best option you can go for. If it is a puppy, the amino acids in the protein meals will be best to enhance proper muscle development. This will boost their growth.

Proteins from plants will also go well for your dog only that they have a less amount of amino acids as when compared to the animal-based. Animal-based proteins have a biological value that shows how strong the meal is.

Eggs have the highest biological value of a hundred. Beef, chicken, and fish are also high in their biological value as they range from 75 to 79. The more the biological value, the more nutritious the protein meal is.

Beef

Beef also contains vitamins like vitamin B3, B6, and B12, although it is also rich in protein. It also provides minerals like selenium, iron, and zinc to your dog.  It has a biological value of 75. For better health of your Pitbull, always go for linear meats.

This is because the beef can be too fatty at some point, and it will be unhealthy for your dog as it will be overweight. Beef is also affordable, and you can get it for your dog many times.

Fish

They have a biological value of 76. Some fish like trout, salmon, and tuna have high amounts of amino acids and have minerals and vitamins. Fish also contain essential oils for good health for your dog like the omega 3 and omega 6. They promote muscle development for your Pitbull.

The dog also gets to have strong bones and teeth upon consuming them. The oils also enhance healthy, shiny skin for your dog. Large fish may cause more harm than good in your dog upon consumption.

Examples of the large fish include swordfish and marlin. They will affect your dog because they have mercury at high levels that are not suitable for the dog’s consumption.

Chicken

Chicken has a biological value of 79. It also contains vitamins B3 and B6 and minerals like phosphorous and selenium, which are essential for your dog’s growth. It is advisable to remove the skin as they contain lots of fat, a health threat to dogs.

Lamb

Feeding your pit bull with lamb is delicious as it contains plenty of vitamins B3 and B12. Lamb will also provide omega 3, omega 6 oils that are important for your dog’s growth. It will also boost its appetite and thus enhance proper growth.

Pork

Pork has a lot of saturated fats and thus needs to be consumed in little portions. This is to save your pit bulldog from being obese. The weight of the dog has to be proportional to its age.  It also has more protein of the best quality for your dog. Vitamins, too, are available in pork meals.

Organ Meat for Dogs

Organ meats are a mixture of the following parts, kidneys, spleen, and liver. They are rich in natural nutrients that promote the growth and development of your dog. They also ensure a steady weight gain.

You need to be cautious of the organ meats as they might be affected by parasites before feeding them to your dog. Ensure there is proper screening done on them before purchase. Always get the organ meats from the animals that your dog love to have for their meals.

This will make their digestion easy as they will be enjoying them like the other meats. It also prevents stomach upsets in your dog that may further lead to diarrhea.

Fruits and Veggies for Pit Bulls

You also need to include fruits and veggies in your pit bulls diet. This is because they are a rich source of fiber required by the dogs to ease digestion. Veggies include sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkins, green beans, broccoli, and parsley.

Fruits include apples, pomegranates, berries, and kiwi fruit. Below are some of the benefits the fruits and veggies have for your pit bull;

  • They have probiotics that help the dog have a healthy gut.
  • Vitamins in them help strengthen the immune system of your Pitbull
  • They enhance healthy skin and coat for your dog.
  • They balance the pit bull’s diet.

NB: Some fruits like cherries are not suitable for consumption by your Pitbull. This is so as they contain cyanide that can harm the respiratory organs of your dog. Fruits like grapes and raisins can also cause harm to the dog’s kidneys upon consumption.

Conclusion

You will know what to feed your dog, depending on its age. A well-balanced diet will help them grow into a strong adult. Make a consistent eating routine and habit for your dog, maybe thrice a day. If you want your dog to increase in weight, normalize switching between fish and chicken.

They may develop allergies when switching proteins, and thus you need to do it properly, with the help of a vet, if need be. During winter, give your pit bull the essential oils as they insulate it from the cold.

Always ensure that the meals your dog is consuming are rich in nutrients, whether they are commercial or homemade.
