Eye Contact = Attention for NYC Dogs

Did you know that any sort of attention can be a reward for a dog? Imagine you are trying to enjoy your dinner or read a book and relax after a long day. Fido’s already been on a nice long walk, but he keeps whining because he’s missed you all day.  Irritating? Possibly? Necessary to put up with? Absolutely not.  The thing to remember is that any sort of acknowledgement— even eye contact is seen as a positive for dogs. It means they succeeded in getting your attention– they’ve won!  How can you correct an annoying behavior? It’s easy, no eye contact is a great start!
